If you're looking for a coffeemaker with a thermal carafe, I don't think there's a better one. Which may not be saying much, as the reviews on these things seem to be pretty lukewarm.
The good: Fits under my cabinets. Black color. Coffee stays reasonably hot for a reasonable amount of time. Coffee quality is about what you'd expect for a good drip maker. If you're looking for espresso quality or french press quality, buy an espresso maker or a french press. This is very good for a drip coffee machine. I have convinced myself that the coffee tastes better if you push the 1 - 4 cups button no matter how many cups you're making. My husband doesn't think it makes any difference. I use paper filters and haven't had the trouble others are reporting.
The bad: It's true, that beeping is ridiculously loud. If you are impatient to get a full cup of coffee RIGHT NOW, it's likely that you will try to pour faster by tipping the carafe farther. Don't do it. Coffee will squirt out of the top. If you like your coffee super hot, this is not your coffee maker. It's hot, but it's not McDonald's-lawsuit hot. And the carafe maintains the heat for a while, but an early morning pot does not stay hot enough for a good after-lunch cup.

With our trusty Mr. Coffee maker developing a leak I went on search for a hardier breed of coffee appliances. I stumbled upon this Cuisinart model and decided to give it a try - this in spite of a bad experience with a more traditional style Cuisinart coffee maker a couple of years back.
The good: Looks great and, although on the tall side, it has a small footprint on the counter. The insulated carafe keeps the coffee at a drinkable temperature for many hours without the worry of nasty burnt tasting "I've sat on the warming plate too long" coffee. The coffee maker shuts off as soon as the coffee is finished brewing and beeps to tell you to "come and get it! Fast brewing time. Carafe does not drip while pouring, slowish pouring speed noted by other reviewers is no big deal at all for me.
The bad: We are on about the 15th pot of coffee and there is still a nasty plastic taste in the brew. We had to pour out the first three pots of coffee altogether - it was so nasty it actually made our stomachs upset. I ran several more pots of a cheap coffee through the maker, washed everything, etc. but the plastic taste and smell is still noticeable. I'm going to try a few rinses of white vinegar and see if that finally rids the unit of the plastic flavor.
If I can get rid of this plastic undertone to the coffee, this should be a very good coffee maker. I certainly want to love it, but I have to question Cuisinart for manufacturing a product that imparts a taste so nasty as to upset your stomach. Don't they test these things? Doesn't someone at the factory tell the boss: "Uh, gee - these first few pots of coffee aren't so good, maybe we better take a look at what the supplier is sending us!" At this price point Cuisinart owes it to the customer to do better than this!

Good quality coffeemaker. I like the fact that we no longer have to worry about leaving the house with the pot heater left on. The Carafe does retain the heat much better than expected.

Used this Coffee Maker for about 10 days now and very pleased with it. Tried it with three different coffee blends, and all came out as expected. The thermal carafe does a good job of keeping the coffee hot for 2-3 hours. Plenty of time to drink it.

Purchased it 4 weeks ago and all the negative comments I read in previous reviews are true:
- filter must be aligned perfectly with carafe or you will have coffee all over your counter (has happened 4 times already)
- coffee must not be too finely ground or the same problem will happen
- the 5 beeps to tell you it's done is too loud and excessive
- the carafe's design makes it hard to pour coffee
On the positive side:
- Coffee quality is excellent
- Coffee stays hot for about an hour and probably longer if you preheat the carafe
