Cuisinart is smearing its good name with this one. As everyone else said already, this peice spills coffee all over, and then turns itself off. 30 minutes is basically 15 minutes of brewing, then 15 minutes of you drinking your first cup then coming back to a luke-warm second cup and spilling it all over again because even though you thought you have it figured out, it still spills. Junk. And the stainless steel

I've had this product for two years now and it still brews a great cup off coffee. I agree with the other reviewers about the spillage. I finally just gave up and I use a plastic cup to fill the reservoir with water instead of the carafe. I use bottled water because our tap water makes the coffee taste gross. When I pour my coffee, I pour it slowly and keep a paper towel handy. I am actually looking to buy one for my office but I was surprised to see that the retail price is almost double what I paid for mine! I will be shopping for a used one.

Usually smaller, basic products are made/designed more cheaply. That's not the case here. This product has done just what I wanted it to, without the frills (do we really need a clock on everything?) or excess capacity of other coffee makers. I haven't had the problem with spilling water/coffee that others have - perhaps Cuisinart redesigned the lid? I do wish that on/off switch was easier to operate, but that's my only criticism of this product.

The cons far outweigh the pros of this little machine.

Pros:

1. Good cup of coffee

Cons:

1. Difficult to fill reservoir without spilling

2. Difficult to fill cup with coffee without spilling (carafe lid leaks)

3. Difficult to fill cup with coffee without burning hand with escaping steam from carafe.

4. If you lift the reservoir lid (which also holds the hot water dispenser) at the end of the cycle, water that had formed on the underside of the lid will spill back onto the boiling element and shoot steam and drops of boiling water on you hands and at your face. One learns the first time not to stand directly in front when attempting to lift lid

5. Power button cannot be turned-on with one hand

6. Carafe lid is sometimes difficult to snap into place

I only keep it because it is small and I'm the only coffee drinker at home. Also, I am too lazy to return it. Someday, whimsy will present a new machine to me.

I purchased this coffee maker for my husband back in about 2001. Prior to buying this Cuisinart, we had numerous discount store coffee makers which lasted only about 6 months. I was determined to find something for him that would last longer, and this has been the one. True, it is a bit messy, but it only takes up a small space on the counter, and the stainless steel pot looks as good as it did the day I bought it -- and my husband has used it at least once a day all these years. We've found it to be an overall great little coffee maker.

The quality of materials is excellent, sleek, and smart looking. BUT... I could not pour a cup without dribbling hot liquid. Resorted to pouring over a garbage can to prevent a mess on the counter. I had several co-workers try in order to make sure it wasn't just me. Finally gave up and bought a different brand. I'm convinced it's a design flaw. Can I have my money back?

I love this little coffee maker. Mine doesn't dribble whatsoever- not sure why others do.. after the coffee is made, the warming plate turns on and keeps it extra hot up to 30 minutes..I keep my lid on as I am pouring, and I pour a little slow but not too slow, with no mess at all.. I have had every coffee maker from a Bunn,Melitta,Cuisinart 12 cup, and a Starbucks, etc.. I loved the Starbucks coffee maker and I would say this is very comparable.. the coffee comes out hot and very full-flavored.. I don't like coffee like jet fuel, but I hate it weak..I use alot less coffee than I used to... this machine just balances it out with super results every time.. I got mine new at a thrift store, but the price here is cheap as well.. in other reviews they say it seems cheaply made- I don't think that at all- it is sturdy enough for a small coffeemaker..I am extremely pleased with mine. No regrets.

"Looks good, but poor design" 2009-08-08

I bought this coffee maker because of the compact size and it looked nice with the stainless steel carafe. I've been using it for about 10 months now:

Pluses:

Looks nice, brews hot coffee very quickly.

Minuses:

Since it brews coffee very fast, the coffee doesn't steep as long in the filter, I found you actually need MORE coffee grounds to make a comparably strong pot of coffee compared to my old Mr. Coffee maker, which let the coffee drain slower.

The carafe drips all over the place when you're pouring. I kept thinking the lid was on wrong but it does, in fact, dribble like a joke. I see many other people are complaining about the same poor design.

The stainless steel carafe makes it difficult to see how much coffee is left. And although it looks like it's one of those insulated carafes, it is not.

As a "safety" feature, the coffee maker turns itself off automatically after only 15 minutes. This would be fine (and expected) if it was an insulted carafe.

I recently purchased this 4 cup stainless coffee maker and spend more time cleaning up the mess than I do drinking the coffee. I can honestly say that I have never experienced anything like it. First of all, when you pour the water in to the resevoir it is a task to get it all in there without spilling over the side due to the small size opening. Once the finished product is poured in to your coffee cup it spills all over the place no matter how careful you are. Additionally, the design of the handle for the filter basket gets in the way of the filter upon removal. This model clearly missed the testing and development phase.
