 "CAUTION POTENTIAL FIRE" 2010-01-13
By Carly (Connecticut)
Don't know if anyone else has experienced this potential fire hazard. I purchased this Cuisinart DCC-1100 model in June 2008. Other than a few complaints regarding the water filler opening being too small (especially for us left handed folks)it made a great cup of coffee. I use the automatic timer to have my coffee ready when I wake up in the morning. What I have done in the past when the coffee maker shuts off after the allotted time, I simply turn it back on by moving the dial up to brew and press on to keep the remaining coffee hot in the carafe. This morning when I turned the dial to brew to keep the remaining cup or two hot, I noticed after a few minutes the remaining coffee started to boil and I could smell a strong plastic odor and smoke coming from where the cord that exists the coffee maker. Quickly unplugged the coffee maker and poured cold water on the heat plate. Fortunately, I was present and able to unplug it before any potential fire resulted. As mentioned previously, I never experienced any overheating issues of turning on the brew setting to keep my coffee hot. Read the instructions carefully and there is no mention of NOT doing this as it could result in overheating and causing a fire. Wanted to give everyone a heads up to prevent a possible fire situation.

"Doesn't pee on or electrocute me, makes great coffee!" 2010-01-12
By P. Falcioni (Central Oregon, United States)
There are a few things we look for when purchasing a coffee maker, they seem simple, but since we've owned probably a dozen disappointing designs over the past few years, I guess not! We've owned this Cuisinart for 6 months now, and I'm so happy with it, I'm buying another. Everything that matters, it does right:

* First, hot coffee. I don't want to put it in the microwave or drink it luke-warm. The Cuisinart delivers perfectly hot coffee every time.

* Second, a carafe that doesn't need a diaper. I don't care if it looks "cool", I just don't want it dribbling all over the counter when I pour. Cuisinart wins again; no drips, no leaks, ever.

* Third, easy to program. Actually, I don't want any programming required at all, I want to put in water, coffee, and push a button. Why do some companies think I should have the ability to do more than this shortly after waking and BEFORE I've had a cup of coffee? This Cuisinart has options if you choose to use them, but it also allows you to just push one button to make coffee. This is very nice!

* Fourth, doesn't leak on my counter and create hazards. Our last Black and Decker would inexplicably leave a puddle on the counter, which the cord and the base of the coffeemaker (with the electronics) would sit in, this was disconcerting to say the least. Peace of mind means never having to unplug the coffee maker to avoid electrocution. Other appliances may fry me eventually, but I don't think it'll be this Cuisinart.

* Fifth, carafe is easy to clean. Well, four out of five is great, right? The carafe on the Cuisinart requires a scrub brush with bristles all the way around, and some sort of 45-degree handle to reach all the dirty spots. It is a hassle to clean, but I'm willing to put up with this one tiny issue because it's brilliant at everything else.

"Works great! Love the features!" 2010-01-09
By Bella's Mom (San Francisco bay area)
While my Braun coffee maker (which I loved) was dying, I bought a KitchenAid coffee maker on clearance as a backup (which I hated). The KitchenAid's coffee tasted like plastic and would occasionally overflow onto the counter while brewing. My Braun finally died and (not wanting to continue with the KitchenAid), I researched many brands and decided on this Cuisinart coffee maker. My "must have" features are: programmability, the option to make 1-4 cups, and an exterior water-level indicator.

This Cuisinart had all the features I'm looking for and makes great tasting coffee. The coffee brews quickly and is easy to program. The water reservior opening is a little small, but I haven't had any problems pouring the water in.

The only thing I don't like is when you lift the lid up, the condensation (from inside the lid) drips down the back of the maker. There is a little ledge on the back, but it isn't wide enough to catch all the condensation. So keep a towel handy.

"This is by far the best coffee I've made" 2010-01-09
By Purita F. Avila (Allenhurst, GA United States)
I bought this one as a x-mas gift for myself. Boy! this is an easy machine to work with and has a great performance. It make coffee so fast and so good it's beyond belief for me. I've tried so many brands before, (including the last Mr. Coffee which took an like 40 minutes to make coffee and leaked water underneath all over the counter, and I had it for over a year), but this one is the best. If you read the instructions carefully and give it a chance without getting frustrated, like so many people, this could work great for you too.
